This contemporary, concept and somewhat eccentric hotel, located in a historic building in Midtown, has become a meeting place for progressive travelers and locals, especially hipsters, who stop by nightly for a drink and sit with their laptops in the lobby. This gives it a very New York feel. People dressed in super-fashionable clothing (including many celebrities!) meet up here and sample the exotic cocktails. The hotel bubbles with activity, so it's ideal for young, upbeat trendsetters.

The decor is minimalist, the details unusual, and the walls are decorated with modern art. The beds are incredibly comfortable, and the staff is very friendly. The hotel offers fairly large rooms, as well as tiny ones with a bunk bed. You get your money's worth!

Key info: Book a room on the fifth floor or higher, or else the throbbing music from the bar is going to keep you awake. There's a photo booth in the lobby to help you remember your stay. The hotel offers several excellent dining options, including The Breslin (try the lamb burger) and the John Dory Oyster Bar.

Rooms start at $289 per night.
