This contemporary British restaurant was opened by celebrated chef Mark Hix and jewelry designer Stephen Webster in the heart of Soho. Its eclectic design places a special emphasis on modern art, including works by Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, and Angus Fairhurst. It's no coincidence that Hix Soho is a favorite among London's beau monde. As always, Mark Hix sets the bar high; every day brings a new dish made exclusively from seasonal produce and featuring an amusing name, such as "heaven on earth."

After dinner, we recommend going downstairs to Mark's Bar, a secret, underground joint where you're likely to spot Kate Moss, Asya Webster, Riccardo Tisci and other celebrities. It's a great place to spend time with friends, sipping delicious cocktails and listening to the hottest London DJs. Try the Heisenberg cocktail and you won't be able to resist another round. The prices are high, but it's worth it.

We recommend: Hix's signature smoked salmon appetizer, cod with vegetables and King's Lynn shrimp, hanger steak, and for desert — Hedgerow Mess, whipped cream with fresh berries and marshmallows. Vegetarians won't be disappointed by the pumpkin squash with ricotta and walnuts.

Cuisine: contemporary British

Atmosphere: bohemian, casual

The crowd: celebrities, businessmen, fashionable London bourgeois, artists, "it" girls, models, theater bohemians.

Key info: It's best to reserve a table in advance. Keep in mind, dinner is limited to two hours. There's a popular theater menu in case you're headed off to a show after dinner.
