It’s impossible to imagine British culture without William Morris, the prolific 19th-century activist, artist, and designer. And there’s no better place to learn about Morris’s life and work than the William Morris Gallery, located in the mid-18th century Georgian mansion that Morris and his family once called home.
The William Morris Gallery collection comprises over 10,000 objects by Morris and his artistic circle—protégés and students, talented designers and artists. It includes textiles, unique decorative items, stained glass and paintings, books, photographs and archival materials, furniture and ceramics. Each exhibition is accompanied by multimedia displays and interactive materials.
Cap your visit with a meal at the Tea Room restaurant, housed in an orangery-style glass extension with beautiful views of the surrounding gardens.
Entrance is free.
