From the moment it was founded in 1977, the Mary Boone Gallery has concentrated on innovative art. It made a name for itself exhibiting Neo-expressionists David Salle and Julian Schnabel. Since then, the Mary Boone Gallery has firmly established itself as one of New York's most interesting art spaces. In the 1990s, it moved from hyper-commercializing Soho to Fifth Avenue between 57th and 58th streets, and in 2000, it opened a gallery in Chelsea (541 West 24 Street) ideal for large compositions and installations.

Today, the gallery's portfolio includes household names — Ai Weiwei, Peter Alexander, John Altoon, Ross Bleckner, and Marc Quinn — as well as an entire constellation of talented young artists, with the gallery always on the lookout for more.
