Gramercy Park Hotel

2 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10010
+1 212-920-3300

This historic boutique hotel on Lexington Avenue has earned an army of creative fans in its nearly 100 years of existence. Famous guests have included Humphrey Bogart, John F. Kennedy, the Beatles, Madonna, and U2. The hotel's location couldn't be better: lower Midtown, a hop, skip, and a jump from both Downtown and Uptown Manhattan. As if that weren't enough, it sits on a quiet street on Gramercy Park, New York City's only private park, accessible to hotel guests and local residents only.

The hotel's interiors deserve special attention. The lobby, bar, and rooms are decorated in the art deco style, and the walls are covered in original works by great 20th century artists from Andy Warhol to Damien Hirst.

There's a restaurant on the roof — Roof Club and Garden — an Italian restaurant called "Maialino," and the highly exclusive Rose Bar, which is impossible to get into unless you're on the guest list. The bar's wonderfully eclectic, casual atmosphere and fabulous cocktails attract celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as businessmen, photographers, and fashion models. You can have coffee or lunch there during the day, or you can head over to nearby Jade Bar,  which has a rich collection of modern art.

Key info: The fitness center includes a spa, but not showers, changing rooms or a Turkish bath.

Rooms start at $350 per night.
