ShanghART Singapore, housed in the Gillman Barracks art cluster, is the celebrated gallery’s first international location. Founded in Shanghai in the mid-1990s, ShanghART has become one of China’s most influential art institutions.

According to “International Art Galleries: Post-War to Post-Millennium,” published by Thames & Hudson of Britain in 2005, ShanghART is among the 75 most influential galleries in the world. And it’s not resting on its laurels. ShanghART is a world leader when it comes to discovering up-and-comers; it works with over 40 artists and counting.

At ShanghART Singapore, don’t miss Ji Wenyu’s pointed critiques of consumerism, along with the work of Li Shan, photographs by Yang Fudong, and Zhou Tiehai’s Pop Art-inspired paintings. The gallery hosts about five shows per year. We recommend keeping an eye out for group exhibitions, which are especially good. Entrance is free.

FYI: There are three ShanghART galleries in China—two in Shanghai and one in Beijing.
