The Berkeley, with more than 100 years of history, belongs to the Maybourne Hotel Group, which also owns Claridge's and The Connaught. Once located at the corner of Piccadilly and Berkeley streets, the hotel moved to Knightsbridge in 1972. Today, it's known as a contemporary, luxury hotel with British flair and flawless style.
All 153 rooms and 61 suites are decorated in the neoclassical style. Standard rooms feature comfortable beds, work areas, and in some cases private terraces and balconies. Guests staying in the signature suites can request a Berkeley Fashion Trunk filled with vintage accessories. Inside, might find a navy Chanel clutch from the 1970s or a Courrèges bracelet from the 1960s. If you can't bear to part from a particular accessory, you can buy it.
Fashionable London society gathers in The Caramel Room for afternoon tea. It's the only place you can taste a hat by Philip Treacy or a dress by Elie Saab – cakes and fancies are served in the style of clothing and accessories from world-famous designers.
The hotel has two restaurants. If you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere and familiar food, head to Koffmann's, which serves simple French cuisine. For culinary fireworks and contemporary British fare, you'll want to dine at Marcus, run by chef Marcus Wareing (two Michelin stars). Blue Bar has the best original cocktails in the city and attracts local celebrities.
The Berkeley also has spa and health club, along with a garden and swimming pool (open year-round) on the roof. In the wintertime, the garden is converted into an open-air movie theater. Curl up under a Moncler blanket and enjoy hot chocolate.
FYI: For complete privacy, we recommend the Park Suite, which has its own street-level entrance.
Daily rate starts at £390.
