Borough Market is one of London's oldest wholesale fruit and vegetable markets, established by Act of Parliament in 1756 and administered by 21 trustees who have to live in the local community. Now Borough Market is most renowned food market; a source of exceptional British and international produce. It is a haven for anybody who cares about the quality and provenance of the food they eat - chefs, restaurateurs, passionate amateur cooks and people who just happen to love eating and drinking.

Borough Market is just one of those prized gems hidden near London Bridge, towered over by the Shard and rife with gorgeous meat pies, pastries, roasted meats, canned and bottled jams and pickles. It's not a farmer's market per se. But it’s not just the sheer quality of the food on offer that makes Borough Market special – it is also about the people and the place.

Good to know: Don't miss the Fish! restaurant. Sandwiched between a railway bridge and Southwark Cathedral, Fish! occupies a grand glass and steel pavilion right at the heart of Borough Market. It is still furnished as a diner with an open-to-view kitchen and a summertime terrace.
