The joined efforts behind The Ned’s grand opening in Spring 2017 are of the American hoteliers the Sydell Group and London’s Soho House, a global members club by visionary Nick Jones. Set in the former headquarters of Midland Bank in the heart of the City, The Ned was designed by Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens in 1924. The heritage building hosts nine restaurants, 252 rooms and a pool rooftop with amazing views on the city.
The guest rooms from intimate so-called ‘crash pads’ to spacious suites offer the 1920s vintage-glamorous yet comfort design with velvet furnishings and curtains, crystal chandeliers and walnut panelling. The marble mosaic bathrooms are stocked with a full range of lavish Cowshed products. As you enter the glitzy lobby of this art-deco masterpiece, you are confronted with a raised circular stage of the Nickel’s Bar that hosts jazz bands and emerging musicians daily. The drinks menu with a refined selection of cocktails, such as their in-house ‘Nedgroni’ will be a perfect start to an evening in-style.
The restaurants positioned amongst what once used to be the banking counters and separated by the grotesque verdite columns will satisfy your every food craving. From the understated northern Italian classics by Cecconi’s, to an Asian-Pacific inspired Kaia specialising in healthy food, and Californian menu of raw superfood salads and juices at Malibu Kitchen you will undoubtedly be spoilt for choice. For a casual snack try Zobler’s Delicatessen, a traditional New York-style Jewish deli, where you can order a chilled borscht or a classic pastrami sandwich from the counter.
The Ned hotel holds yet another stunning gem – a members only club including a rooftop pool and The Vault bar & lounge housed behind a 20-tonne original vault door and designed with 3800 safety deposit boxes. The hotel offers a luxurious Cowshed Spa, men and women’s grooming services, a gym and a relaxation area with a pool.
Good to know: in case you left anything behind while packing, no need to worry. The Ned partnered with the top fashion e-retailer Mr Porter for a convenient room service with a menu of frequently forgotten items such as cufflinks, white shirts, tights, earrings and socks, that you can order directly to your room.
Room price starts at £383 per night.
