This art gallery is located in Dempsey Hill, once a nutmeg plantation and later a military camp, today this area is known for its conceptual restaurants and art spaces. Founded in 2001 by Chris and Charlie Churcher, REDSEA gallery has gained its recognition in the contemporary art landscape of Singapore with its original exhibitions and a versatile selection of artists.
The collection includes painting, photography, illustration, sculpture and installation by established and emerging artists from Asia as well as Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Russia. In 2016 REDSEA gallery hosted an exhibition of Salvador Dali’s etchings and drawings including many works previously unseen in Singapore.
The gallery-owners have an eye for discovering new talent: one of their artists Fachrudin Malik became a rising star soon after walking into the gallery with only one existing work of his signature monochrome ‘pen and ink’ drawings. With no less than 10 exhibitions a year, the gallery showcases Philipp Meier’ steel sculptures, charcoal drawings by Anton Pulvirenti and surrealist ceramic pieces by Johnson Tsang amongst others.
